  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for DKK-TOA HM-41X Benchtop pH Meter:

    1. What is the HM-41X used for?

The HM-41X is a benchtop analyzer designed to measure pH, ORP (oxidation–reduction potential), and temperature simultaneously. It is widely used in water treatment, food processing, aquaculture, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and academic laboratories.

    2. What are its key features?

  • Large custom LCD for clear display of pH, ORP, and temperature readings.

  • Data memory for up to 1,000 measurements.

  • Multiple power options: four AA alkaline batteries (≈ 2,500 hours), USB power, or 110–240 VAC adapter.

  • Built-in USB (Micro) and RS-232C interfaces for PC connection or external printer (EPS-P30) support.

  • 3. What are the measurement ranges, resolutions, and accuracies?

    Parameter Range Resolution Accuracy
    pH 0.000–14.000 0.01 / 0.001 pH ± 0.006 pH
    ORP –2000–2000 mV 1 mV ± 2 mV
    Temperature 0.0–100.0 °C 0.1 °C ± 0.2 °C
    Extended pH –2.000–16.000
    Extended ORP –2200–2200 mV
    Extended T° –5.0–110.0 °C

    4. How do I calibrate the meter?
  • Rinse the electrode with distilled water and gently blot dry.

  • Enter the “pH Calibration” menu and start with the neutral point (pH 6.86).

  • Sequentially immerse in pH 4.01 and pH 9.18 solutions (or additional custom points up to 5).

  • Confirm each point to store the slope and offset.

  • Perform a one-point temperature calibration (typically at 25 °C).

  • The HM-41X supports up to five-point pH calibration (JIS/US or custom) and one-point temperature calibration.

    5. What is ATC vs. MTC temperature compensation?

  • ATC (Automatic Temperature Compensation) uses the meter’s internal thermistor to automatically correct pH readings over 0–100 °C.

  • MTC (Manual Temperature Compensation) allows the user to input the sample temperature manually for the same range.

  • You can switch between ATC and MTC in the temperature settings menu.

    6. How do I store and export data?

  • The meter stores up to 1,000 readings in internal memory.

  • Connect via USB (Micro) to a PC and use the provided software to download data in CSV format.

  • Use the RS-232C port to print results directly on an EPS-P30 external printer.

  • Real-time data logging is possible when linked to a PC application for monitoring and charting purposes.

  • 7. How should I maintain and care for the electrode?

  • After each use, rinse with distilled water and store in a dedicated electrode storage solution.

  • Do not let the glass bulb of the pH electrode dry out.

  • Replace the electrode every 1–2 years, or sooner if response time degrades (stabilization time > 30 s or drift > ± 0.1 pH).

  • Regularly clean the electrode in a mild acid or detergent solution if fouling occurs.

  • 8. What accessories come standard, and what are optional?

    Standard accessories include:

  • GST-5821C pH glass electrode

  • pH 4.01 and 6.86 standard solutions (500 mL each)

  • Reference filling solution (50 mL)

  • Three 150 mL beakers

  • Electrode stand and holder

  • Ground cable (2 m)

  • Four AA batteries

  • Instruction manual

  • Optional items: additional electrode stands, clamps, customized standard solutions, and precision temperature probes.

    9. What are common troubleshooting steps?

  • Display blank or faint: check battery level, USB/adaptor connection, and restart the meter.

  • Fluctuating readings: verify electrode cleanliness, re-calibrate, and ensure proper immersion depth.

  • “E1” or “Err” error codes: inspect electrode connector, signal cable integrity, and replace if damaged.

  • Temperature errors: confirm ATC/MTC setting and re-calibrate temperature at 25 °C.
