Description

The FIU-20 FI value measurement unit is a unit that includes the KS-47 filter holder and a stand with a flow path switching cup, making it possible to measure the FI value (Fouling Index) accurately and easily.
As shown below, the FI value is calculated from the ratio of the filtration rates between two points, t0 and t15. This is less affected by water temperature, filtration pressure, etc., and is effective in understanding the water quality of the test water.
The FI value is a pollution index that determines the degree of pollution of trace amounts of suspended solids and colloidal substances contained in water. In recent years, FI value measurement has become increasingly important because it is much more sensitive than the turbidity measurement method using scattered light. This measurement method involves filtering the test water using a 0.45μm, 47mm diameter membrane filter under a constant pressure of 0.20MPa.
①Measure the time (t0) required to filter the first 500 mL.
②After 15 minutes of continuous filtration, measure the time (t₀) required to filter 500 mL in the same manner. Calculate the FI value using the following formula.
FI=(1-t₀/t₁₅)×100/15
